Project

Post marathon tonight:

I've set up an easy challenge for myself. I want to see how long it will take for me to listen to every song on my ipod on shuffle, without skipping or without starting over. It's been 5 days and I've listened to roughly 79 songs. That's it. I feel like I should be further along.

I think part of the reason I'm so attracted to works by Candice Breitz and Phil Collins (no, not that Phil Collins) is that what one listens to can be a way of identifying oneself. Think Punk, Metalhead, Indie, etc. I've been writing about music for a while now and I'm thinking about how I want that to be part of my professional life or to what capacity music can play into my professional life. In any case, music is and will be a huge part of my life and in some ways, it's a big part of my identity. I'm interested in seeing just what I have and how that informs my mood and what are these little building blocks to my identity. This is, of course, very similar to the "listen to every CD I own" challenge I set up a few years ago. But hopefully with a little bit more thought to it.
