Way back at Hampshire, a friend of mine then was a dancer and mentioned that she performed a piece that was bananas. It involved scratching, twitches, etc. and set to a song that had a repeated refrain of "big science." It was probably my first encounter with Laurie Anderson and I will admit, she was not my jam then. Since Hampshire, I have come a long way in my admiration for Laurie Anderson.
I read some archives of her United States performance for class and it really interesting to read some notes and the lyrics. AND she worked with Pauline Oliveros (not for United States but on other projects), who I encountered at Mills. I'm letting my feminist flag fly and really getting into and further studying these really amazing, groundbreaking women like Anderson, Oliveros, Harmony Hammond and Lucy Lippard.
