48. Leona Lewis "Bleeding Love"

I love a great pop ballad. A great pop ballad hits you at the very core, they're romantic, aching and soaring - think Whitney Houston's version of "I Will Always Love You." When I was younger, I listened to Whitney and Mariah Carey ballads and I felt them. I was 11-years old, but I felt them, man. A truly great pop ballad makes you feel that ache and pain; it becomes cathartic not just for you but for the singer as well (see: every ballad Mary J. Blige has ever done).

The first time I heard Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love," I liked it but it didn't quite sweep me away like I wanted it to. It's not that it isn't a good song, it's a pretty spectacular song. It's beautifully done and Lewis' voice is just sublime. However, the song just didn't hit me at my core.

That is until I saw something that changed my mind completely.

I happened to catch an episode of "So You Think You Can Dance." I'm not a regular viewer (well not since Season 1 featuring Melody Lacayanga. SOTA represent!) but I enjoy a good dance performance. This episode featured Mark and Chelsea with a hip-hop routine to "Bleeding Love." It is AMAZING. I was unenthusiastic about the song before but after seeing this gut-wrenching routine, I love this song. See for yourself.
