33. Atlas Sound "River Card"

Shimmering, seductive, and bubbling, "River Card" is one of many highlights on Atlas Sound's fantastic Let the Blind Lead Those Who See But Cannot Feel. Inspired by a Puerto Rican short story about a boy who falls in love with his own reflection in a river and subsequently drowns, "River Card" has some of Bradford Cox's most straightforward and vulnerable lyrics: "River so clear and blue/ I'm so in love with you/ But you drown me." The song is filled with longing and the music is so evocative of not just the river itself but of a heartbeat as well [check out those percussions]. "River Card" fills with tension yet it flows off, deeper and deeper just as the river does. It is elegant and sensuous and demands repeat listens.
