18. Vampire Weekend "A-Punk"

There's a reason why Vampire Weekend got to be indie-sized superstars and that reason begins with A and ends with Punk. "A-Punk" is anthem that bridged the gap between the blogosphere and MTV. Bouncy, youthful, impossibly infectious, "A-Punk" was the perfect indie pop single. Mixing in a little Paul Simon, some Ramones-style shouts, Vampire Weekend crams a whole lot in just over 2-minutes. The lyrics don't make a whole lot of sense [something about one person going to New Mexico while another chills out in Washington Heights], yet that's completely besides the point. Hey, it ain't as cute as "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" or have that smarty pants cred as "Oxford Comma," but it is danceable and that's good enough.
