"Bryn" isn't a song that will show up on many year-end lists. It doesn't have the energetic spunk of "A-Punk" or "Oxford Comma," yet it ranks as my favorite Vampire Weekend song. Propelled by a great guitar riff straight out of a Deerhoof song [perhaps that's why I like it so much], "Bryn" contains some of the most direct lyrics on the album. This romantic ode is cheery and earnest and bubbly. It counters any potential sap with sharp instrumentation [I can't get enough of those guitars!] and resists becoming too clever for its own good. There's no fanfare with "Bryn" and perhaps that's why I like it so much.
