2. Beyonce "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)"

Part "Irreplaceable," part "Get Me Bodied," "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" is the best pop song of 2008. Spunky, sexy, the break-up song made for dancing. Built on agitated claps, squiggly synths and giddy vocal harmonies. Maybe is was made by the fantastic video or maybe Beyonce is such a megastar anything she does becomes a hit. No matter, "Single Ladies" is still a formidable song with a itchy beat and built-in choreography. Released under the guise of Sasha Fierce [Beyonce's, well..fierce alter ego], Beyonce seemed to realize the joys and release of working through a persona. Shrugging off the angst of "Ring the Alarm" or the seriousness of "Listen," "Single Ladies" is spunky, fun and perhaps the finest ultimatum set to music.
