I got nothin' nothin' nothin' not at all
Listening to Wavves' album Wavvves is like listening to an audio version of Richard Linklater's 1991 film, Slacker. On "No Hope Kids," Nate Williams (a.k.a. Wavves) sings about his no-fi lifestyle - no car, no girl, no money, no hope. Not exactly a winning combination, but Williams does have a guitar and recorded a slew of slap-dash, catchy takes on drony surf rock. "No Hope Kids" is just one of many songs about Williams' dead-end lifestyle, yet if there's no hope it certainly isn't reflected in the music. Sun dappled, energetic, and remarkably tuneful for such a scuzzy song, "No Hope Kids" may be about Williams' slacker life, but it's also innately relatable.
