Don't want to talk / All I hear is noise
Having seen the Sleepy Jackson before, seeing firsthand Luke Steele's egotistical performance, I approached Empire of the Sun with an understandable amount of apprehension. (The '80s fantasy movie cover art may have also played a part in the apprehension.) By the time I heard "Standing on the Shore," the gloriously over the top third single off of Walking on a Dream, I was sold. A mix of glam rock, dance pop, and unbridled ambition, "Standing on the Shore" is meticulously crafted, ridiculous, but undeniably catchy. Complete with a video that mines everything from Pan's Labyrinth, The Cell, and Cirque du Soleil, "Standing on the Shore" is an exercise in ridiculous yet amazing pompousness.
