Saturday was a day of auditions/open call in New York for a new art reality show, produced by Sarah Jessica Parker and Magical Elves (the team behind "Project Runway" and "Top Chef"). The whole bru-ha-ha was covered in the New York Times and of course, in Scene & Herd. It's interesting to read as it seems as if the producers and Bravo seem to be at great pains to try to prove themselves as having some "art world cred," with staff people quick to point out that they are involving "art professionals and luminaries whose names you would recognize." Of course, these luminaries have yet to be revealed and I'm intrigued to see who is actually involved.
I haven't decided how I feel about this show. Curious mostly. I'm intrigued to see how this show will take shape - will there be quickfire challenges? If so, how the hell do you do a quickfire with artists who work in many different mediums and styles? How will the work be judged? It'll be interesting to see how this works out, especially since this is much more visible than Jeffrey Deitch's "Art Star" which only aired on the now defunct Gallery HD channel. Interestingly, one of the finalists of "Art Star" was reportedly in line for the auditions of the Bravo show.
Filming of this show takes place in the fall and many of the details are pretty top secret (or maybe, have yet to be decided) for now.
