36. The Dodos "Walking"

One of my favorite aspects of listening to San Francisco-based The Dodos is listening to Meric Long play the guitar. It's so precise, you can almost hear each string with every strum. Perfectly synced with Logan Kroeber's propelling drumming, The Dodos' music takes folk and Americana to new and interesting places.

In "Walking," the opening track of their album Visiter, Long and Kroeber find themselves joined by a banjo and subtle female harmonies. Though not as "experimental" as other songs on the album with folk formats, "Walking" is still an upbeat song, wonderfully executed. Long's vocals are delivered with confidence and Kroeber's steady drumming keeps things moving along. It may not sound too much like the eccentric arrangements and harsh strumming of other songs on the album, yet "Walking" is still a subtle twist on traditional forms.
