Despite what their name suggests, Holy Fuck aren't just a bunch of rabble-rousers. With a spectacular Radiohead remix under their belt, Holy Fuck crafted a finely tuned indie rock album with their debut self-titled LP. Yeah, there's no vocals but that saves us one less Isaac Borck impersonation to listen through. In fact vocals might even detract from the flat-out amazing single, "Lovely Allen."
Revolving around a "Baba O'Reilly"-carousel style keyboard melody, "Lovely Allen" builds an invigorating and elegant song out of distorted guitars and a metronome-like bass. By the time Owen Pallett from Final Fantasy steps in with the violin, you're sold. The cathartic frenzy beginning at the 1:30 mark is one of my favorite musical moments of the year.
