ALCATRAZ!!

For James' birthday, we took a trip to Alcatraz Island. Unfortunately the outing coincided with the first big rain we've had in quite a while, but a couple of cheap rain ponchos (courtesy of Sports Basement, where I got my new waterproof messenger bag!) kept us relatively dry. Here are some pics of the trip. The shots are pretty dark, it was the night tour after all.

This is the remains of a building that was the Officer's Club, and some random couple's butts.
From Alcatraz

Here are some shots of one of the cell blocks. I think this one is Broadway, but they kind of all look the same: dark, dingy, not fun.

This is a solitary confinement cell. It was pitch black when we went in, but flash makes a difference.

The library.

This series of pictures I'll call Art at Alcatraz:
"Paint By Numbers"

"Art in the Cells"

"Pheasants"

"Portraits"

The tour is basically this headset audio tour and it goes over a lot of what happened at Alcatraz. But separate from that, you are able to visit the hospital which was pretty creepy. Imagine all of these shots way darker because that's how it was.

This is the operating room.

Operating table.

Hydro-therapy tub. Um, yeah.

Hospital room.

And then there's the ridiculous gift shop. This is a tag from inside an Alcatraz Peacoat.

As we left, the rain cleared and I got a clear shot of the morgue outside. I'm so morbid.

It was well worth the rain and the $33.
